Lieutenant, RCN

Died: 24 Aug 2022

IRWIN, Eugene Beverley Dean - Passed away August 24, 2022, in his home. How does one write about a 95 year old Naval Lieutenant, my husband and do him proud. Well, I'm going to try. Life wasn't easy for him as a young child, but he persevered and got through it. After a brief stint in the United States Navy. Moving up the ranks, he did well, retiring out in 1977 from Air Traffic Control, Downsview, Ont. I'd be remiss not to mention he served on all three Carriers: The Bonnie, Maggie, and Warrior. Upon retiring he opened Pyroguard Electric Ltd,, which he successfully ran with wonderful partner, Hezekiah Vernon for the next 22 years. Retirement followed, with Heather's insistence to Nova Scotia they went settling in Dartmouth. Doggies always their passion - Sherry and Sunshine in Thornhill, Patches and Shyania in Dartmouth. Happiness with them knew no bounds. Many wonderful and fun friends were made and enjoyed wherever we lived Stories and jokes were shared, cards played, songs sung, golf played, swam, partied, travelled far and wide. We did it all, thanks guys. Now, his journey is over and he's now sailing into a new life with Sherry, Sunshine, and Patches. Forward ho dear Dean, 'til we meet again, say hi to everyone for us please. Private graveside service in September, Rev. Ivan Gregan and Rev. Blake Coldwell officiating. Donations if you wish may be made to Port Wallis United Chirch, 263 Waverly Rd., Dartmouth, Dartmouth SPCA, or Guide Dogs for the Blind, c/o CNIB. Survived by wife, Heather; and fur companion, Shynia; niece, Daphne (Peter); nephew, Alex (Mona); many other nieces and nephews. Many thanks and love to family and friends, with special thanks to Leo, a special friend, you cared so much. Ed and John Mah, Yvonne, your love and caring always there. Dr. M Watson and staff, we're blessed, Bayshore Home Health team, you all made my life bearable. Palliative Care and Victorian Order of Nurses, so supportive. Life goes on because of you all. Our love, Heather and Shynia. Committal Service for Gene "Dean" will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 776 Main Street. with reception to follow at Port Wallace United Church - 263 Waverley Road.
