Died: 01 Feb 2022, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

 

SQUIRES, William Robert (Bill) - 89 of Dartmouth passed away February 1, 2022 at home. Born in Toronto, Ontario he was a son of the late Albert and Ethel (Souray) Squires. Bill served 25 years in the Navy sailing on many ships including HMCS BONAVENTURE, ANNAPOLIS, NIPIGON and MARGAREE to name a few. Following the Navy, he joined the Corps of Commissionaires until his retirement. Bill was a lover of sports, a long time devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. He coached CFB Stadacona Hockey Team, enjoyed playing darts at the Chiefs and PO's Mess and was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Somme Branch 31. A fond lover of wildlife and a supporter of Hope for Wildlife. Bill loved long drives listening to his favorite radio station Seaside FM and finding new fishing holes. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill is survived by his children Catherine (Charlie) Callaghan, Stephen (Marie) Squires, Kenneth Squires, Joanne "Jo-Jo" (Darren) Dileo, Francie MacKenzie, Trudi (Tom) MacLean, sisters Elizabeth, Clare, brothers Alfred, Michael, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Gertrude, brothers Burt and Christopher. Cremation has taken place. A private funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hope for Wildlife.
