FLATH, John Carleton, Lt, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of John Albert and Nelly Emiline Flath, of Medicine Hat, Alberta; husband of Nina Flath, of Medicine Hat.
Lieutenant Flath died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors.
Lt Flath joined the RCNVR as a Telegraphist and later accepted his commission as an Officer in the RCNVR. He worked as a school teacher prior to enlisting.
