MCGETTIGAN, Emmett Patrick, L/Ck (S), V22563, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of Patrick and Mary McGettigan; husband of Iris Mary McGettigan, all of Toronto.

 

Leading Cook McGettigan died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors.  He was survived by his wife Iris Mary McGettigan, and seven month old son Michael, of Oak Street, Toronto. Leading Cook McGettigan was born in Ireland but lived in Toronto for some time prior to enlisting.
