MYERS, Stanley Murray - passed away December 27, 2020 in St. Albert, AB at the age of 95. He was born Murray Stanley Myers August 30, 1925 in Head Jeddore, Nova Scotia to Murray and Iva Myers. He was the fourth of eleven children - six boys and five girls. He grew up in a house right on the south coast of Nova Scotia where his sister Phyllis still lives.

On January 1, 1944, after working for the Naval Magazine in Halifax for 17 months, he joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserves at HMCS HALAGONIAN in Halifax. He was 17 years old. He went from HALAGONIAN to HMCS YORK in Toronto. What a change for a young man from "the sticks" of Nova Scotia. He then went to HMCS Stadacona back in Halifax for five months and then on to HMCS Cornwallis where he served on the HMCS SANS PEUR, a retro fitted private yacht that was taken over by the RCN in 1939. He then went HMCS Peregrine where he dispatched harbour craft to ships in Bedford Basin. He met Hank Snow working on a harbour craft at this time. He was at Peregrine for a month and then shipped off on the troop ship HMCS AQUITANIA where he served on the gun crew. The AQUITANIA eventually landed in Scotland at NIOBE. He boarded the HMCS IROQUOIS on June 3, 1945 to return to Halifax. He was discharged at Peregrine on January 24, 1946.

After returning to Halifax, Stan met Marion Power in Halifax. They were married on November 12, 1945. After being discharged from the Navy in 1946, Stan and Marion travelled west to Alberta where Stan worked for his uncle Chester Myers. Their first son, John (Jack) Myers was born in August. A second son, Barrie, followed in March 1948. After working for his uncle, Stan worked for ATCO gas for 35 years, retiring in 1982 to spend time with his grandchildren, teaching them to fish at Lac St. Anne. He was an active member of the legion, serving as president of the Kingsway Legion for many years. He never missed a year selling poppies.

Stan is survived by his partner of 25 years, Joyce Bruce; sisters: Venita and Phyllis of Nova Scotia and his sister Helen in Australia; son, Barrie (Pat) Myers, four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Marion in 1992; son, John (Jack) in 2015; five brothers; three sisters and his parents.
