Died: 31 Jan 2008

 

BURGESS, William A. - died peacefully at Gilmore Lodge on Thursday January 31, 2008 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Irene (McTaggart). Loving father of Linda Green (Don), Shanon Yewen (Bob), Jeff Burgess, Paul Burgess (Tamara) and Cindee Barrow (Kent). Dear Grandpa of Brenda, Laura, Elayne, Eric, Jeff, William, Alexandra, Jaimee and Blaine. Great Grandpa for 9 great grandchildren. Survived by his brother Jim Burgess of Ottawa. Mr. Burgess was predeceased by his 8 sisters and 1 brother. Mr. Burgess was a Veteran from WWII and his Navy experiences were a very important part of his life. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 in Port Colborne and the Navy League. For several years he was an active member of the Bellerophon Drum and Bugle Band. Bill spent his entire working career as a machinist and supervisor with INCO. He volunteered many hours with the Port Colborne Minor Ball and Hockey Leagues as well as with the Sea Cadets. Mr. Burgess was a member of the Port Colborne Golf and Country Club and golf provided many hours of enjoyment for him in his retirement years. The Burgess family would like to thank the staff at Gilmore Lodge for the excellent care Dad received while he resided there. Bill will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his entire family, who meant the world to him. The Burgess family will receive visitors at the Port Colborne Chapel of the Davidson Funeral Homes, 135 Clarence St. on Sunday from 2-4p.m. and 7-9p.m. A legion service will take place on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 11:00a.m. Burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial remembrances to the Alzheimer’s Society or a Charity of Choice would be appreciated by the family.
