CAREY, Percival George, AB A/SD, V10506, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Foster-son of George B. and Elsie Florence Carey, of Regina, SK.
Able Seaman Carey died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors.
Able Seaman Percival George Carey was the foster son of George B. and Elsie Florence Carey. Percival was working for British American Oil as a service station attendant before serving two months in the Regina Rifles, then transferring to the Navy on November 20, 1940 at Regina, Saskatchewan. He attended Eston Saskatchewan school and Balfour Commercial in Regina prior to enlisting. Survived by a sister, Mrs. I. R. Loucks and a brother Ben W. Carey.
