In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HEWITT, Joseph Terrance (Terry) - loving husband, devoted family man, 70, of Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly September 17, 2019. Terry was born May 8, 1949 in Halifax, to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Jollimore) Hewitt. Terry found his love for the sea while working on his father's fishing boat when he was a teenager. He then joined the navy in 1967 and travelled the world, retiring after 28 years of devoted service as PO2, Communications Technician, RCN. On May 26, 1972, in St. Catherine's Church in Halifax, Terry married the love of his life, Beverly Ann MacMullin, much to the joy of his family. Terry had many interests including canoeing, fishing, hunting, fly-tying, target shooting, and most of all tinkering and storytelling. Every task that Terry undertook he did so wholeheartedly and with great attention to detail. Terry, a firm believer that everyone deserves a second chance, was heavily involved in his community, donating his time and energy to the Big Brothers Association, Adult Literacy volunteer, Cub Scouts of Canada, and as Range Officer. Terry is survived by his wife Bev of 47 years; daughters, Kelly Hewitt (Johnny Russell), Kerry Hewitt (Jason Biggin), Kim MacColl (Scott MacColl); grandchildren, Morgan Hewitt, Benjamin and Riley Biggin, and Carter and Hunter MacColl; sisters, Sherry Hodge (Francis Hodge) and Darlene DeCoffe (Mike Thompson); in-laws, Clare and Peter Grant and many extended family.
