HIBBARD, Arnold Ashley, OS, V75031, RCNVR, MPK - 24 Nov 1944, HMCS SHAWINIGAN - Son of Eric Arnold Hibbard and Cathleen Prudence Hibbard, of Grand'Mere, Quebec.

 

OS Hibbard died when HMCS SHAWINIGAN was sunk by U-1228 on 24 Nov 1944. Of her crew of 91, there were no survivors.

 

Ordinary Seaman Arnold Ashley Hibbard, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Hibbard, Grand'Mere, Québec, was reported missing in the sinking of H.M.C.S. Shawinigan, in the North Atlantic. He received his educated at Lachine, Sherbrooke and Grand'Mere high School, Québec, and joined the naval service in Québec City in November, 1943. Besides his parents - his father is the manager of the Bank of Montréal at Grand'Mere - he is also survived by a brother Eric Dale.
