Acquired by RCN: 1940 

Commissioned: 11 Nov 1940

Paid off: 13 Dec 1945

Fate: Broken up in 1968

 

Formerly the Department of Transport Hopper Barge No. 4, she was acquired by the RCN in 1940 and converted to a fuel oil carrier. Sunbeam was commissioned on 11 Nov 1940, and served as a lighter at Halifax and St. John's and occasionally as a transport. Paid off on 13 Dec 1945, and sold into commercial service, she was renamed Birchbranch in 1949. Her register was closed in 1968, as she had been broken up.
