They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
NORRIS, Cyril Anthony, Tel, 2686, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of John Francis and Emma Louise Norris, of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Telegraphist Norris died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, was struck by the freighter SS Port Fairy while in convoy and was sunk. 143 of her crew were lost, 86 of them were survivors of HMCS FRASER.
Leading Telegraphist Cyril Anthony Norris was born at Halifax, N.S., in 1917, and was lost at sea on the night of October 22, 1940, while aboard HMCS Margaree when that ship was sunk in the North Atlantic Ocean. Leading Telegraphist Norris was educated at St. Patrick's Grammar and High School at Halifax, N.S., and joined the Royal Canadian Navy on January 05, 1934. He belonged to the Nelson Sea Cadets for five years, and was a member of St. Patrick's Church. Norris was unmarried and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Emma L. Norris of Halifax.
