Aviation Technician, RCN

Born: 19 Dec 1930, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Died: 30 Jan 2026, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada

LEDUC, John Martin - age 95, of Dartmouth Nova Scotia, died Friday, January 30 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. He was born on December 19, 1930, to Marguerite (McMahon) Leduc and Alfred Leduc in Ottawa, Ontario.

John joined the Navy at 17. As an Aviation Technician he served on the HMCS Magnificent, Bonaventure, Skeena and Assiniboine. He married Alice McNutt, the love of his life on April 19,1952 and had three children, Dianne, John and Cindy. John was a dedicated, loving and supportive father and husband, and a terrific father-in-law to Tim Milligan, Louise (McCormick) Leduc and Rick Tully. A proud Canadian and committed serviceman, John loved working on aircraft and travelling the world aboard ship. He made lifelong friends among his colleagues and until recently continued to meet them twice a week for coffee.

John and Alice often took their grandchildren, Michael Leduc, Alexis Milligan and Matthew and Ryan Tully on summer holidays, creating lifelong bonds between the cousins. They were very close to John's Ottawa family and visited often.

John was an avid fisherman, a passion that he passed on to children, grand children and great grand children. He was the kind of dad who encouraged his daughters to be strong and independent long before the age of Women's Lib.

John played old-timers hockey with the Shearwater Flyers and later with the "Geritol" league which he helped organise, until age 79. A longtime member of the Hartland Point Golf Club, he hung up his golf shoes for the last time at the age of 92.

John is survived by his wife, Alice, his children and their spouses: Dianne and Tim Milligan, John and Louise Leduc and Cindy and Rick Tully; grandchildren and their partners Michael and Laura (Mackeigan) Leduc, Alexis Milligan and Tim Carroll, Matthew Tully and Katie MacKinley and Ryan Tully and Joanne Boutilier and great-grandchildren: Tim Schwager, Annika Schwager, Seamus Leduc, Cormac Leduc, Braden Tully, Lainey Field, Levi Tully and Lyla Tully and Barrett Tully as well as his sisters Madeleine (Leduc) Ryan and Sharon (Leduc) Labreque and brother-in-law Patrick Ryan. John is also survived by his best friend, Mick Stephenson, whom he regarded as a brother. He was predeceased by brothers Bernard and Wilfred and sisters Lois Ryan and Coreen McGee.

The family would like to acknowledge the kindness of the neighbours who helped out so much in their final years in Colby Village. Thanks are also due to the medical and support staff of 5W, Dartmouth General Hospital, especially Music therapist Emma Barss who brought such joy along with her guitar.

A celebration of John's life will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, NS.
