Lieutenant (E), O-17350, RCNVR

Died: 04 Dec 1998

CUMMING, John William (Bill),  B.Sc. (Mount Allison), P.Eng. (McGill) - Peacefully on December 4, 1998, in his 82nd year at the Veterans' Wing of Sunnybrook Hospital.  Beloved husband and best friend of Isabel McLeod Murray.  Loving father of Barbara Devitt (husband Tom), John (wife Maria) and Kayleen "Kasey" McDowell (husband Brian).  Cherished brother of Kay Robertson (husband Al) of Halifax, Nova Scotia and brother-in-law Conor Nolan of Fort Myers, Florida.  Predeceased by Margaret Condon, Graham Cumming and Shirley Nolan.  "Grumpie" will be deeply missed by his grandchildren - Robb of Vancouver, Andrew and Kayley Devitt of Thornhill, Kyra McDowell of Barrie and Parker Cumming of Unionville as well as his many nieces and nephews.  Bill served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy VR, worked for many years as a Civil Engineer with Foundation Company of Canada and was the Executive Director of the Canadian Prestressed Concrete Institute.  He was an active and loyal supporter of the United Church and a gifted athlete who up to age 75 enjoyed hockey at the cottage on Lake of Bays with his children and grandchildren...outplaying most of them.  Always a gentleman, we thank him for his gifts of unconditional love, kindness, wonderful sense of humour and his gentle guidance.  Our deepest thanks to Abe and Orentia and the wonderful staff on the Second Floor of the George Hees Wing.  Funeral Service at St. George's United Church, Lytton Blvd. on Tuesday, December 8, 1998 at 2 o'clock.  Cremation to follow with a Memorial Service to be held at Little Harbour Presbyterian Church in Nova Scotia, near Melmerby, the place he truly loved.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Veterans' Comfort Fund of Sunnybrook Hospital would be appreciated.  Arrangement in the care of the Trull Funeral Home "North Toronto Chapel", 416-488-1101.  Reception following the service at the Church.
