In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
COTE, Jean Laurier (John) - It is with profound sadness we announce John’s passing on February 18, 2025 at the age of 85.
He was born to the late Lucien and Gisele Cote in Scotstown, Quebec and spent his early years there. Dad joined the RCN in 1958, serving most of his time on various ships starting with HMCS Nootka and ending on the HMCS Algonquin, retiring after 25 years as a Chief Petty Officer. He was very proud of his time in the navy and the lifelong friendships he made there. Afterwards he continued as a civilian with Maritime Command for another 18 years and ended with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. He was also a proud Legion supporter and volunteer. Dad was a huge sports fan, a die-hard Montreal Canadians supporter, a curler, and an avid golfer and long time member of Hartlen Point Golf Course where he especially enjoyed the fellowship at the 19th hole. Dad loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and friends and he and mom never missed a get-together whether it be for a BBQ, party, special event or just to hang out and share in the laughter and make new memories.
He is survived by his daughter Susan (Barry); son Scott (Sharon, Liam and Mathieu); grandsons Brent (Maria) and Geoffrey; great-grandchildren Lyla, Leah and Jacob; sister Nicole and brothers Rejean, Sylvain, Pierre and Yvan all of Quebec. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Doreen; son Marty Kolt; and sister Chrystiane. We are forever grateful to the staff of 5 East at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building for their care and understanding of dad, their appreciation of his humour and his foibles; and their kindness and compassion to dad and to us especially at the end.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 6th from 2-4 pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth.
