Helen Gwendolyn (née Hoey) MacManus

Gwendolyn served as a Telegraphist in the WRCNS during the Second World War.  She was on watch when HMCS GUYSBOROUGH, the ship her brother, James R. Hoey, was serving in, was torpedoed, and she received the GUYSBOROUGH'S SOS call.

 

Gwendolyn's uncle, Hartley Lamont (Monty) Mawhinney, also served in the Navy during the war.
