Robert William (Bob) McNish

Died: 10 Aug 2024, Tsawwassen, British Columbia, Canada

 

McNISH, Robert William (Bob) - Passed away August 10, 2024, in Tsawwassen, BC, after years of living with Alzheimer's. Born in Brockville, ON, in January 1933. He was the son of William and Violet (Spinsby) McNish. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1953, which brought him to Nova Scotia where he married Eleanore (Leeper) in 1959, and had three children, Jennifer, Colin and Cathy. Bob always wanted to fly and began his career as a pilot in 1958 serving in Shearwater, Victoria, Portage La Prairie, Toronto, Ottawa and then back to Shearwater in 1974. He served on various ships including the Maggie and Bonnie. He was the last observer to land on Magnificent in 1956. "Swish" retired from the Canadian Forces in 1980. After retirement he flew with Okanogan Helicopters and then became a test pilot with Transport Canada at YVR. Always an avid athlete Bob enjoyed skiing, kayaking and cycling and at the age of 64 cycled across Canada when he met Felice Andersen, who remained by his side for the remainder of his life. Bob was predeceased by his sisters, Pat Gowen, Gert Tobin, Jean Hand; and sadly by his beloved son, Colin, in 2018. He is survived by his brother, Bill (Barb), Michigan, Felice Andersen, Tsawwassen; daughters, Jennifer and Cathy (Martin), Nova Scotia; grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Julia; and great-granddaughter Lyla.
