LONG, Michael Blain - age 78, of Victoria Vale, NS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Crowthorne, England, he was a son of the late Reginald and Vera (Smith) Long. He was employed for 37 years with Loblaws and retired as Assistant Manager. Mike served with the Royal Canadian Navy and was stationed in Shearwater with HS 50 Squadron and was proud of his time on HMCS Bonaventure. He enjoyed tinkering with woodworking, was an avid bowler and enjoyed golfing, baseball, hockey, football, curling and was a lover of muscle cars. Mike loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lillian; daughters, Deanna (Chris) Videto, Victoria Vale; Lisa (Scott) Franklin, Fort McMurray, AB; Susan Long, Clementsvale; son, D’Arcy (Tracey) Gallant, Stratford, PEI; sister, Rosemary Ferguson, Mississauga, ON; brother, David Long, Gatineau, QC; grandchildren, Brandon, Curtis, Owen, Kyle, Michael, Meagan, Emma, Johnathan, Ashley and Devon; six great grandchildren; loving brother-in-law; and uncle. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Phil. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., Monday, September 2, in Nictaux Fire Hall, 9349 Highway 10. All are welcome. Private family interment will be in the Nictaux Cemetery, with Rev. Janet Baker officiating. Donations in memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Salvation Army or Twelve Baskets Food Bank.
