MARSH, Ronald Thomas - With sadness his family announces the passing of Ron at home on November 18, 2007. He was born in Halifax on September 27, 1931, along with surviving twin brother, Don, to the late Alfred Marsh and Laura Marie (Lannon) Marsh. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1951 serving for 36 years. He served on many ships and with many establishments and spent two tours of duty in Korea on HMC ships Nootka and Haida. He commissioned the first (cadillac) destroyer HMCS St. Laurent and first supply ship (AOR) HMCS Provider. Having great love for the navy, Ron was a member of the Atlantic Chief and Petty Officers' Association, the Admiral Desmond Piers Naval Association and the Canadian Tribal Class Destroyer Association. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 160. Ron was somewhat old fashioned but very caring, considerate and respectful with others. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Taylor); his children, of whom he was very proud, Stephen (Jean Noel), Marilee Glaesner (Mike), Charleston, S.C.; and David (Marilyn McAvoy); grandchildren, Cameron Glaesner and Alexandra Marsh; brother, Don (Shirley), Sackville. He had a caring association with his nieces and nephews enjoying a number of visits to his home by Maureen Gignac and Janice Drysdale. Ron was predeceased by sisters, June, Mavis Davis, Thelma Drake, and brothers, Ralph, Bruce "Swampy"/"Boon", Darrell and Douglas. Being an avid outdoorsman, Ron spent many hunting/fishing seasons from the lakes and woods of Pictou County to the Highlands of Cape Breton. He was a founding member of the Rod and Gun Club of East River St. Mary's where he, his sons and brother Don enjoyed many good times with numerous good friends from that area (Hooterville). Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Memorial service 2 p.m. today in Centennial Legion, Branch 160, Main Street, Dartmouth. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Reception to follow at Centennial Legion. Donations to Atlantic Chief and Petty Officers' Association or any charity of choice. (The Halifax Herald 23 Nov 2007)
