In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DOLL, Rennie Gregory - 78, of Comox BC, passed away on August 18 after a long decline.
Rennie was born on June 3, 1945 to Mervin Gregory Doll and Elizabeth Louise Doll (Jackson) in Calgary AB.
Rennie joined Navy July 3, 1963 in Calgary, HMCS Tecumseh. Rennie had served aboard the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure as aircrew. From which he had fond memories and would on occasion reminisce about his time on the 'Bonnie'. From the Bonaventure, Rennie would eventually serve in the Airforce as an Airborne Electronic Sensor Operator (AESOP) for the Argus and Aurora aircraft. Rennie attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and was awarded Member of the Order of Military Merit on December 13, 1982. Rennie would finish his military career as Chief of Squadron in CFB Greenwood.
CWO Doll retired from the military January 1, 1988 after 25 years of service. Rennie had very much enjoyed his time in the military and in retirement he would at times refer to himself as 'just a sailor'.
Upon retiring from the military Rennie moved to the Comox Valley where he worked in Sales for one of his oldest and closest friends, Gerry Unger, for a number of years, before finally retiring completely.
Rennie met his wife Margaret Ann Doll (Marchand) in Halifax NS when he was serving in the Navy. Rennie and Margaret were married December 29th, 1966 and had 3 sons; Todd, David, Adam. Rennie spent his retirement enjoying his family and grandchildren.
Rennie was predeceased by his parents Mervin and Elizabeth. Rennie is survived by his wife Margaret. His brother: Ben Doll. His sons: Todd, David, Adam. His grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, Emily, Jacob, Samantha, Charlie. Rennie will be sorely missed by family and friends. Rennie lived a life of service; to his country, and to his family and friends. He was known to be diligent, hardworking, honest, with a sharp wit and dry sense of humor.
