BARKHOUSE, George Albert - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Albert Barkhouse, quietly in his home on the morning of Saturday, April 20, 2024.

George was born October 18, 1929, on Church Street in Port Williams. As a young man, he enlisted in the Navy in 1950, where he was involved in communications research. Stationed at many bases during his career, he served his country with honour in Ottawa, Coverdale, Gander, Fort Churchill, and Alert while giving his family experiences they will never forget. When he retired as a Master Warrant Officer in 1975, he was recognized for the outstanding length of his service.

Kind and talkative in equal measure, George was beloved by family and community alike, and was an active member of the St. Thomas Anglican Church in Kingsport NS, and a cherished grand and great-grandfather. In his free time, George was an active man who loved to golf and fish. He loved working with his hands, adding to his home and the homes of his children with many projects over the years, and creating beautiful leatherworks which will be cherished by his family.

George was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Ingles, and his sisters, Pearl and Beverly. He is survived by his loving wife, June; his children, Gail (Bud), Catherine (Brian), Larry, Linda, and Melanie (David); his grandchildren, Michael (Kari), Darryl (Kiki), Stephen (Michelle), Sylvia (Evan), Maria (Chris), Mark, Ian (Wendy), Sarah, Christina (Shane), Ben, and Katie; and his great-grandchildren, Jared, Danica, Ethan, Sydney, Brooke, Zach, Lex, Misha, Marshall, and Rowan.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday April 27th at the St. Thomas Anglican Church in Kingsport and will concurrently be livestreamed at the Lloyd Memorial Center at 29 Main Street in Kingsport, where the reception will also be held following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George's memory to a local food bank or the St. Thomas Anglican Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. (White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services)
