Clayton George Maidment

Born: 17 Jan 1949          Died: 14 Dec 2023

 

MAIDMENT, Clayton George - age 74 of Clarksville passed away on December 14, 2023. Born January 17, 1949, he was son of the Ruth (Cooper) Maidment and the late Edward Maidment.

 

George grew up in Catalina NL and at the age of 12 his family moved to Happy Valley Goose Bay, Labrador.

 

He Joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1966, and in 1967 he was an original member of the East Coast Gun Run in the International Tattoo, traveling across Canada.

 

George served on the Bonaventure and the Cape Scott, sailing to England, Denmark and Porta Rico just to name a few. In his time in the military, George wore a few hats including Cook, Military police Officer at CFB Windsor Park, Military Fire Fighter at CFB Shearwater. Then became a civilian DND Fire Fighter as a Platoon Chief at HMCS Dockyard, NAD, Magazine Hill and Mill Cove.

 

He also drove cab for Casino Taxi from 1972 to 2020, roof light #316. He was also a volunteer fire fighter in West Gore.

 

His passion was fishing and hunting. His annual fishing trips to Mooseland, NS, and making many fishing trips to Northern Labrador as well as a few hunting trips in NS and NL. He loved pool and belonged to the Mount Uniacke Legion #165 winning many titles and awards. George also played in various hockey leagues in Shearwater, Citadel Inn, Black Bear Tavern, Midland-Scotch Village as well as darts in Gore.

 

He was a passionate animal lover of cats and dogs. He will be missed by his babys, Willow and Ebony, his Yorkie-poos.

 

George will forever cherish his memories with his Riverside family.

 

Besides his loving mother, George is survived by the love of his life, Diane (Wambolt), his children Sheri, Edward (Catherine) and Lynn. His grandchildren, Justin, Shelby, Colton, Marina. Great Grandchildren; Shaya, Aiden, and Lucas his little buddy.

 

Brother Frank (Pam) Maidment of Oromocto, NB, sisters; Brenda (Albert) Elson of Labrador, NL; Cathy (Rod) Evans of Ontario and Lisa (Curtis) Saunders of Labrador. As well as many nieces and nephews and Diane’s brothers and sisters.

 

Besides his father, George is predeceased by his daughter Tamara McRobb and sister Gloria in infancy.

 

There will be no service at this time, a Celebration of Life will be held later in the Spring.
