In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MARZOCCO, Alan Joseph - beloved husband of Marie Marzocco of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the age of 93 surrounded by his family.
Born in Wycliffe, BC, Alan graduated UBC as a Mechanical Engineer then served on active duty as a Navy Lt. in WWII. He was Director of Buildings & Grounds for the Calgary Separate School Board from the mid 1960’s to mid 80’s. His loves were his family, building his own projects, travelling, gardening, drawing, and learning Spanish. He’d been a long time volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Alan is survived by Marie, his loving wife of 56 years, his sons Gerald, Robert, Michael and daughter Karen Marzocco, Daughters-in-Law Patti-Ann and Nancy Marzocco, Grandchildren Jessica Fadness, Daniel, Anthony and Ryan Marzocco. He was predeceased by his siblings Theresa Lassalle and Edward.
Friends are invited to Prayers at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
The family thanks the staff and volunteers at the Colonel Belcher and Foothills Hospital for the excellent care Alan received. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Friends of Colonel Belcher Society. (McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes)
* Note: Alan's birth name was Aldo Marzocco. Sometime after the war, feeling his name was "too Italian" he changed his name / went by Alan.
