DROBOT, Thomas - It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Drobot announces he passed away peacefully at home in Atikokan, Ont. on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at the age of 84. He was born Oct. 1, 1922 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Anne and Mike Drobot. During WW II, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on the destroyer HMCS OTTAWA and the corvette HMCS Barrie. Tom was an electrician by trade and while he spent a few years at the paper mil in Fort Frances, he spent most of his years working at the Steep Rock iron mine in Atikokan. In 1949, he married Elsie Brennard in Fort Frances. The moved to Atikokan in 1959, where they lovingly raised their four children. Tom was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Special occasions and visits with his family were very important to him. Tom was a quiet man with a witty sense of humour. He also was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and picking blueberries and mushrooms, but his passion was for fishing. Tom is survived by his daughter, Janice and husband, Terry Lee, of Stratton, Ont.; son, Randy and wife, Rachel, of 150 Mile House; B.C.; son, David of Atikokan, Ont.; daughter, Beverly of Kitchener, Ont.; and grandchildren, Andrea Lee, Angela Lee, and Ryan Drobot. A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Barb Miller officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. The pallbearers were David Drobot, Randy Drobot, Terry Lee, Michael Brennard, Eddie Tetu, and Adam Wiwcharyk. In memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
