SWEENEY, Daniel T. - Passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at the age of eighty-two years. Beloved husband of fifty-eight years to Gertrude Samuel. Loving father of Michael (Kathy), Ron, and John (Kjellaug). Caring grandfather of Kevin, Christopher, and Hilary. Dear brother of the late Michael, Leo, the late Dora, Robert, the late George, and the late Edward. Friends and family may call at the Armstrong Funeral Home 1640 Cote Vertu, St. Laurent (514) 331-1104 on Tuesday from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 11 a.m, 875 Marcel Laurin, St. Laurent. Interment will follow in St. Laurent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated. (The Montreal Gazette 06 Mar 2006)

 

Daniel's brother, Michael Sweeney, Tel, RCNVR died when his ship HMCS RACCOON was torpedoed and sunk on 07 Sep 1942. Daniel was serving in HMCS DAUPHIN at the time of his brother's death.

HMCS ATHABASKAN - Survived the sinking of ATHABASKAN. Captured by the German Naval forces and became a POW for the remainder of the war.
