In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SMITH, Norman George - With great sadness we announce the passing of Norman Smith in his 97th year, on August 14, 2022, at Idlewyld Manor. Norman was predeceased by his beloved wife, Audrey, of 72 wonderful and inspiring years. Loving father of Larry (Susan), Suzanne (Karl), Norma (Paul), and Philip (Cathy). Cherished Da of Reed (Christine), Shane (Frances), Nathan (Carolyn), Andrea (Mike), Brandi (Wendell), Caitlin (Scott), Justin (Anna), Chelsea (Lyle), Jared (Catherine), and Rhianne (Tom). Adored Great Da of Genavieve, Lauren, Jeremy, Audrey, Grey, Kylie, Ethan, Abigale, Mason, Logan, William, Zachary and baby Easton. Norman is remembered by his older brother Don (Mary), and was predeceased by his two dear sisters Muriel (Ted) and Velma (Byron). He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Norm moved from Havelock to Hamilton at an early age. His 42 year career at Dofasco was interrupted when he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and proudly served in WWII. Upon returning, he and his father built a house on the Hamilton mountain, where our family was raised. In retirement, Norm loved his evening dram of Scotch. He also started an annual camping/fishing trip for his grandsons which carries on today.
Norm and Audrey's devotion and love for each other throughout their marriage, has established a firm foundation for our family. Norm was also a faithful elder at Southgate Presbyterian Church.
He truly lived a good full life where his warmth and kindness was an inspiration to us all. We were so lucky to have our loving and gentle father/Da with us for so long. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the many dedicated staff at Idlewyld Manor for all of their care, support and compassion.
An intimate celebration of Norm's life will be held at a later date. (The Hamilton Spectator 20 Aug 2022)
