Died: 15 Feb 1990, Qualicum Beach, British Columbia

 

ALLAN, Gordon - was born in England in 1900.  On 13 Aug 1918 he enlisted in the RAF (service number 181692).  After the war, on 17 Aug 1919, he arrived in Halifax. on 29 Jul 1925 he arrived at Bellingham, Washington, USA aboard the SS Pacific Foam on which he'd been an Engineer since Oct 1924.

 

On 30 Jun 1940 Gordon Allan enlisted in the RCNR as a Motor Mechanic. He was rated Chief Motor Mechanic the next day.

 

After the war Gordon settled in British Columbia. The 1963 voter's list show him residing at 3125 - 13th Ave, Vancouver and working as a Marine Superintendent.  He died of cardiac arrest at Qualicum Beach in Feb 1990.

 

Citation for MBE: ALLAN, Gordon, Lieutenant (E), Member - Order of the British Empire (MBE), RCNR - Awarded as per Canada Gazette of 10 June 1944 and London Gazette of 8 June 1944. "This officer has displayed outstanding devotion to duty. In his constant and consistent efforts to maintain and make ready for war the ships attached to an East Coast Command, Lieutenant Allan has shown under very often, trying conditions, the most untiring zeal and energy which, coupled with his high professional attainments, have served as an inspiration to all who have come in contact with him."

Battle of Gaspe Medal

 

The Battle of Gaspe medal was a locally produced medal at HMCS FORT RAMSAY given to those who served there as parting gift for long service at FORT RAMSAY. The medal was obtained from a Second World War Shipwright by Mr. Ed Paquette.

 

The background was as follows:  The ribbon is attached to the medal by part of a spark plug from a Fairmile. One had to do 24 months to get the full medal, 12 months service merited half a medal.

 

The above medal was presented to Lt (E) Gordon Allan, RCNR for 31 months service at HMCS FORT RAMSAY.
