LAING, John McGregor, Leading Stoker, V59271, RCNVR, killed - 20 Jul 1944, HMCS MATANE - Son of William Winton and Annie Brown McGregor Laing; husband of Pearl Christina Laing, of South Porcupine, Ontario.

 

John was one of 8 brothers that served in WW2 for Canada, he was the only one not to make it back.

 

Leading stoker J. M. "Scotty" Laing died from injuries he received in action when HMCS MATANE was attacked with a glider bomb and damaged in United Kingdom waters. He is buried Weston Mill Cemetery, Plymouth, England.
