LINDSAY, James, Sto PO, 21289, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - son of Alexander and Isabel Lindsay, of Halifax, England. Husband of Elizabeth V. Lindsay, of Halifax, NS.
Stoker Petty Officer Lindsay died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, was struck by the freighter SS Port Fairy while in convoy and was sunk. 143 of her crew were lost, 86 of them were survivors of HMCS FRASER.
Stoker Petty Officer James Lindsay was born in Hamilton, Scotland. He lived in Finch, Ontario and was a farmer before he enlisted into the Royal Canadian Navy on March 22, 1930. In 1931 he married Elizabeth Finch, by whom he is survived at Halifax, N.S., together with three children, Margaret, James and Alexander, His parents live in England
