MAGUIRE, William Dennis (Bill) - of Eastern Passage. It is with a heavy heart I announce the passing of my husband Bill, at the age of 72, on March 12, 2021, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born October 2, 1948 in Sudbury, Ont., he was the son of the late Mickey and Muriel Maguire. Those who were close to Bill knew the military was his life, and he took great pride in serving his country. His sister Melody told me a story about their father taking Bill to a parade when he was around four years old, he ran up to a soldier and wrapped his arms around the soldiers legs and said I want to join the army, the soldier told him, your time will come and from that day on, that is what he wanted to do, join the military. He joined the militia in his younger years and in 1966 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He started his career in the Army with the Black Watch, Royal Canadian Regiment and the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, he did peace keeping tours in Cyprus and the Balkans and spent some time in Greenland and up in the Arctic. In 1982 he re-mustered to the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Safety Systems Technician and also spent numerous years aboard the ships PROTECTEUR and PRESERVER with the Air Detachment. His last posting was 12 Wing Shearwater in 1983, where four years later he met the love of his life, married in 1993 and retired in 2001. After retirement he joined the Core of Commissionaires, joined the group OSSIS and got actively involved with helping Veterans. Survived by his wife, Linda; stepson,Michael (Tracy), Sheet Harbour; step grandchildren, Madison (Sean), Eastern Passage; and Dawson, Sheet Harbour, who he loved dearly. Brother to Lillian, Sudbury, Ont.; Carol, Ingersoll, Ont.; Jim (Denise), Sudbury, Ont.; Melody, Edmonton, Alta.; and Ilsa (Richard), Berwick, Ont.; Heather (Jim), Caperoll, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Linda and Bernadette, both of Sudbury, Ont.; Elva (Ronnie), Sheet Harbour; Beverly, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews. He had a special place in his heart for niece and nephew Misty and Ian (Ernestine) McTaggart, who he couldn't have loved and been more proud of, if they were his own, both of Edmonton, Alta. Predeceased by brothers, Mike and John. Cremation has been entrusted to Eastern Passage Community Funeral Home and due to COVID restrictions there will be no visitation. Burial at a later date. I would like to thank the nurses on 4 East at Dartmouth General Hospital, Dr. Chang and Dr. Lawless for the the outstanding care and compassion they have given Bill during his stay.
