They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
WIGHT, Allan Ernest, Stoker 2c, 40555, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of Frank Harold and Gertrude Wight, of Ottawa, ON.
Before enlisting in the navy Allan attended a business course at Ottawa High School of Commerce. Allan joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a Victualling Assistant and later transfer to the Stoker trade. His first ship was the minesweeper GASPE followed by HMCS FRASER. He survived the sinking of the FRASER spending time in the Royal Naval Hospital, Portsmouth recovering from his wounds. He joined the crew of HMCS MARGAREE on 06 Sep 1940 and lost is life when HMCS MARGAREE was sunk in a collision while in convoy on October 22, 1940.
