Died: 10 Dec 2020, Stittsville, Ontario

 

BUTLER, Russel Arthur - Peacefully at Hazeldean Gardens Retirement Residence in Stittsville Ontario, Russel Arthur Butler, aged 92 years. Beloved husband of 64 years to Valerie. Loving father of Susan (Hugh) of Deep River and grandfather of Megan of Toronto and April (Andy) of London, Ontario. Russ was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces, having enlisted as Ordinary Seaman in the Royal Canadian Navy at HMCS York, Toronto in 1950 and attaining the rank of Captain. Russ served in HMCS NADEN, SHEARWATER, MAGNIFICENT, STADACONA, CORNWALLIS, LAUZON, HUNTER, NOOTKA, GATINEAU, CDLS in London England and NDHQ in Ottawa. He retired from the CAF in 1982. Upon retirement, Russ worked as a Public Servant in National Defense and in the private sector until 1993. He will be fondly remembered by his colleagues and friends across Canada from the Armed Forces and NATO, as well as Russ and Val's neighbours in Ottawa and Kanata. Private family interment has taken place at Beechwood Cemetery. A Celebration of Life with Russ's friends and family will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders or The Ottawa Symphony Orchestra.  (The Globe and Mail 19 Dec 2020)
