STASIN, John Joseph, O/Sig, V5604, RCNVR, MPK - 19 Oct 1940, HMCS BRAS D'OR - son of Nickolas and Mary Stasin of Montréal, QC.

 

Ordinary Signalman Stasin was born in Montréal and educated at St. Michael's and St. Roch's School and at the Montréal Technical School. He was widely known in Park Extension, where he lived, and was regarded as one of the leading younger hockey and baseball players in the district. Greatly interested in sports, he had been sports editor of the Weekly Post, a Park Extension and Town of Mount Royal community paper for six months before he enlisted in the R.C.N.V.R. a month after the outbreak of the war. The last word received from him by his parents was in the latter part of September. Besides his father and mother he leaves three sisters and a brother.
