GAVEL, Clifford Roy, Lt (P), O-26476, RCN(R),  killed - 31 Jan 1947, HMCS WARRIOR - Son of Roy Ferguson and Edith Kate (nee Fowkes) Gavel, of Vancouver, British Columbia; husband of Jean Loraine Gavel, of Vancouver, British Columbia. Stepbrother of Clarence.

 

Clifford Gavel enlisted in the RCAF on 07 Oct 1942 and served until 13 Jun 1945 when he transferred to the RNVR as a SLt (A). On 30 Sep 1945 he transferred to the RCN(R). Lt Gavel died when the aircraft in which he was a passenger crashed into the sea off Portland Island, four miles North East of Patricia Bay, BC. The province of British Columbia honoured Lieutenant Gavel by naming Gavel Lake in his honour.
