HMCS MARGARET BROOKE 321

The ship now proudly displays a large piece of Indigenous inspired artwork depicting a hunter standing on sea ice, spear in hand. The artwork serves as a reminder of the deep connection between the Harry DeWolf class and the people of Canada's North. These ships were designed to operate in Arctic waters during the navigation season, conducting sovereignty patrols, supporting scientific missions, assisting other government departments, and maintaining a visible Canadian presence in some of the country's most remote regions. Incorporating Indigenous imagery recognizes the generations of northern peoples who have lived, travelled, and thrived in these challenging environments long before modern ships arrived.

The hunter standing upon the ice symbolizes resilience, self reliance, and an enduring relationship with the land and sea. Positioned prominently on the ship's side, it transforms an otherwise plain section of hull into a visible tribute to the culture and traditions of the Arctic.
