McGUIRE, John Patrick - It is with great sadness that the family of John McGuire announce his passing on Saturday May 24th at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital in Halifax. He was predeceased by his wife Sharon (Adams), his father Bill, his mother Mary (Lenihan) and his brother Bobby.

John is survived by his son Pat (Jane), his grandchildren, Livia, Jacob and Emily, his first wife and long-time friend Marilyn McGuire, his sisters Maureen Wilson (Gerry), Karen Bonnar (Jimmy) his brother Bill (Selma) and many nieces and nephews.

A lifelong Haligonian, John was proud to be one of the “Creighton Street” McGuire’s and loved to tell stories of the neighbourhood, the families and the businesses that thrived there when he was younger.

John served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Radar Plotter and later as a Naval Aircrewman onboard HMCS Bonaventure, he also worked for several years as letter carrier for Canada Post and finished out his working days back on the streets of Halifax driving for Yellow Cab.

A special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital for taking such great care of Dad over the past six years, you are truly wonderful people.

In keeping with John’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer society. (Dartmouth Funeral Home)
