In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
JOYAL, Claude Edouard Roland - was born at his home on Larose Avenue to Helen and Joseph Joyal, Tuesday, September 28, 1920. He was the first son born after four daughters. He grew up and attended school in The Pas and took a business course in 1938. During this time he met the love of his life, June Smith. In 1942 he joined the Canadian Navy, took his basic training in Winnipeg for two months and then went to Prince Rupert for five months. He was then drafted to H.M.C.S. Waskesiu in Esquimalt, BC. Claude came back to The Pas in 1944 and while on leave he married his sweetheart, June Smith, November 4, 1944. He then went to Halifax and St. Johns where he was on Harbor-Craft until his discharge from the Navy in 1945. Claude returned to The Pas and was employed by Scott National Fruit Company, Dominion Catering and at St. Anthony's Hospital as a Purchasing Agent, until his retirement in 1985. Claude also dabbled in trapping in the Pine Bluff area. Claude enjoyed life to its fullest and enjoyed getting together with his family and friends doing a lot of dancing and carrying on. He brought a lot of happiness to others through his gentle, kind mannerisms. Everyone respected him. Claude proudly served with the Legion Branch #19 in The Pas, taking part in various events and serving with his buddy Doug. Remembrance Day was dear to him and he proudly wore his poppy and marched in the parade. Claude passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at his home in The Pas, surrounded by his family, at the age of 94 years. One day after his birthday - he had to make sure he got one more party in! Claude leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 70 years, June; children Don (Kathy) Joyal, Penny and Bobby; Michelle (Bob) Martin, Troy, Trevor and Dawn; Gary (Kathy) Joyal, Jeff, Jackie, Doug, Chris, Ginger, Daniel and Jillian; Renée Parsons (Daniel), Riki and Houston; 12 great-grandchildren and one great- great-granddaughter. Claude was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Helen Joyal; brothers John and Fernie; sisters Helen Joyal, Antoinette Lauze, Jean Joyal and Irene Boyer; and great-grandchildren Hilliary Renée Parsons, Braden Fuller-Joyal. Prayers and visitation were held Friday, October 3, 2014, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, MB. The funeral service was held Saturday, October 4, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, MB. In keeping with family wishes, cremation followed and a private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #19, Box 478, The Pas, MB, R9A 1K6, would be appreciated by Claude's family.
