In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FOGG, Walter A. August 2, 1921 - October 12, 2014 Walter lived his life, guided by dignity and loyalty; and filled with humility, kindness and gratitude. In his 94th year, as gently as he lived, Walter passed away at Tudor House in Selkirk, with family surrounding him or thinking of him. Walter was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth; his father Walter; his wife Joan; his son Paul, his sisters Irene and Grace; and, his brothers Russ and Ron. He is survived by his brother Roy; his brother-in-law Ed; his daughter Sherrin (Marvin); his grandchildren Marshall (Sherry Lee), Andrew (Jodi), Iain, Erin (Jim), Jordan and Evan (their mother Martha Dheere), and Cody. Also, by his great-grandchildren Jocelyn, Emma and Nate; his extended family and friends. Walter was born in Winnipeg. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1941 and served his country with pride aboard the HMCS Waskesiu. In August of 1945, he married Joan Williamson in Halifax. With his "Joanie", they moved to Winnipeg and later to Selkirk , where they filled a life dedicated to each other for 60 years. Following the war, Walter studied at the Winnipeg School of Art. He worked in the display department at Eaton's. In 1951, he joined Bristol Aerospace. He remained there for 32 years, until his retirement in 1983. Walter's artistic passions included mural painting, wood carving, photography, calligraphy, and landscape painting and sketching. Walter was a long-standing member of the Kiwanis Club of East Kildonan. He loved his long distance bike rides, the sounds of the pipes and drums, his harmonica, the family camping trips, reminiscing and story telling, the times he spent near or on any river, lake or ocean, and fishing, especially with his little girl. Dad was always attentive, appreciative, and generous towards his entire family and all of his friends. A truly kind and gentle man. This was Dad. Although sad to let him go, he sure had a good run. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the dedicated staff at Tudor House, who took such great care of Walter. A private family interment at Glen Eden is planned. Although flowers are gratefully declined, donations in Walter's honour, are welcomed to the Selkirk Food Bank, Tudor House, or a charity of choice. A celebration of Walter's life will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 2 at the Bronx Park Community Centre, 720 Henderson Hwy., in Winnipeg. Please join his family to celebrate the life of their dear father, grampa, great-grampa, brother, uncle, and friend.
