Stanley Robert Engstrom

Leading Seaman, RCNVR

Died: 27 Sep 2014'

ENGSTROM, Stanley Robert - It is with great sadness and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Stanley Robert Engstrom on September 27, 2014. Stan is survived and dearly missed by his wife of 71 years, Margaret Engstrom (née Fraser); his children, Karen (Norm), Linda (Gary), and Stanley; his grandchildren, Jamie (Mark), Steven (Lisa), and Kristina (Michael); and his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Megan, Graham, Raelee, Jordan, Shane, Luke, and Alexander. Stan served as a Leading Seaman in the RCN during World War Two, on HMCS Matane, which sank two U-Boats and survived a glider bomb attack. After the war, he worked for 35 years as a proud IWA union mill worker. Throughout his long life, we always knew where Stan was happiest: among his family, and among the great varieties of plants in his many gardens. His gentle, caring manner nurtured us all. A funeral and celebration of life will be held for Stan on October 4, at 1 p.m., at Matsqui Lutheran Church. (the Vancouver Sun 01 Oct 2014)
