RUTHERFORD, Raymond - Passed away on March 20, 2025 at Broadmead Lodge. Ray was born on July 9th, 1926 and raised in Victoria. He was predeceased by his father Thomas (1943) his mother Margaret (1973), his sister Doris (1995) and brother Stan (2007).
Ray leaves behind his children David (Gillian), Maureen (Colin), Matt (Alecia) and Alex (Taylor). He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Andrew (Andrea), Hayley (Mike), Dawson, Wells, and Millie.
Ray served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the second World War, with service on HMS Glory and HMCS Warrior.
Ray worked in the public service of BC for 42 years retiring in 1984 as the director of Mineral Titles and Chief Gold Commissioner, Ministry of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources. Following his retirement, he was appointed to the mediation and arbitration board under the petroleum and natural gas act and served for 13 years and was chair during his last four years. For many years, Ray was considered the provincial expert in under surface rights.
Ray was a long-term member of the Royal Canadian Legion public service branch number 127.
Ray was a lifelong supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs and had hoped to live long enough to see them win another Stanley Cup.
Ray's family would like to thank the staff at Broadmead Lodge for their caring support in his final years and weeks of life.
Service will be held on April 26, 2025 at 10 AM at First Memorial located at 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC with a reception to follow.
Ray's family also invite you to share a drink at Christie's Carriage House, Ray's favourite watering hole, on April 26th 2025 between 4:00pm and 7:00pm, 1739 Fort Street. (The Victoria Times Colonist 12 Apr 2025)
