SHAFFER, Kieth Harrison (Sam) - Born October 1918, he was nicknamed Sam as his father Harrison Shaffer fought in the US Ccalvary in WWI for Uncle Sam - men were Sammys. Harrison was born in Midwest while his father Harrison overseas. He was returned raised in Montana until the age of 10, then homesteaded 1930s in Francois Lake BC. When the Second World War broke out, many many young men, in their urgency to leave the remote rural farming and lumber existence, volunteered for training and service for Allied forces. Many men in our family tree branches served. Keith aka Sam was in the D-Day landings and was apart of liberating Holland. He was seriously injured by shrapnel while overseas. He returned home to Canada on the Lady Nelson travelling home to BC by train where he recovered from his spinal shrapnel injury; eventually learning to walk use his arms and have one more child post war in 1955. He raised his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to serve others and honour Veterans of all Wars and be grateful that those who sacrificed their lives for freedom, peace, and liberation from tyranny.
