DIDDAMS, William Ernest - the son of William Diddams and Edith Ralph, was born at Toronto, ON on 8 Mar 1924. He enlisted in the R.C.N.V.R. on 27 Apr 1942 and served for four years in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Indo-Pacific theatres of war. Diddams is known to have served aboard the H.M.C.S. Ontario as it transited the Bay of Bengal on its way from Ceylon (Aug 31st, 1945) to Hong Kong (11 Sept 1945), thus earning its crew the Burma Star. Since the Ontario only entered the Pacific theatre after the armistice, its crew did not qualify for the "Pacific" bar that is sometimes found with the Burma Star. Diddams was discharged from service in 1946. He died at Toronto on 19 March 2005. (Courtesy of Curtis Mainville)
