WATERSTON, Robert Oliver - of Fort Lawrence, NS, ended his battle with lung cancer on the 26th day of June, 2024.
Born December 3, 1942 in Quebec to John and Irene Waterson. He left school and started working at the age of 14. He was able to join the Canadian Navy at 16 with the careful use of a pen on a document his father had signed. He served as an Air Rigger primarily on the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure from 1957 to 1962.
He married Diana Johnston April 7, 1962 who passed on July 5, 2005 and is survived by his two sons, Glenn and Bruce; sister, Phyllis.
In 1963 he began a 24-year career with CN Route where he started out as a mechanic and a rose through the ranks until he was Regional Vice President of Ontario Region. He followed that up with becoming a Pro Hardware store owner until he retired in 2001 and moved to Nova Scotia. Retirement was short lived with his desire to keep active and he worked on the Canadian Census as an Enumerator and later as a Crew Leader. Still not wanting to sit still he joined Paladin Security on Patient Watch with a newly discovered still of relating to patients with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed curling and playing Bridge with the many friends he made after moving to Nova Scotia. He will be missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church Street, Amherst NS.
Following Robert’s wishes, there will be no services. He will be laid to rest in the Fort Lawrence Cemetery. (Campbell's Funeral Home)
