In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DAOUST, William Marcel - On December 11th, we lost a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and wonderful companion. Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 11th, 2024 at the age of 93. Originally from northern Ontario, Dad served in the Navy for 42 years. While serving on the HMCS Iroquois during the Korean war, he was injured when the ship was hit by shore bombardment. He also served on the HMCS Labrador as it navigated through the Northwest Passage from Halifax to Vancouver, and the circumnavigated the continent through the Panama Canal. His military service continued in another 15 navy vessels plus the training bases in CFB Cornwallis and CFB Halifax. After retirement , he served as a volunteer with several organizations, notably Meals on Wheels and volunteering at Northwood Senior Center. He was also involved with Toast Masters for several years. Bill is survived by his daughter Joan, his companion Marion and grandchildren Julie, Lauren, Grant and Ian and great-grandsons, Aedan and Ezra. On Dad's request, there will be no service and he had long ago decided to donate his body to Dalhousie Medical School for research and training. You will be missed Papa. I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking, And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking."
