John Irwin (Johnnie) (Jack) Kay

Died: 14 Nov 2004, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada

 

KAY, John Irwin (Johnnie/Jack) - age 84 years a resident of Pioneer Ridge, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospice Unit on Sunday, Nov 14, 2004.

 

John was born in Eston, Saskatchewan on June 29, 1920.

 

He left home and came to Port Arthur, ON in 1940 to join the navy during World War 11. During the war, while stationed in St. John's, NFLD., he met his soul mate Ella Reid. He was transferred to Halifax, N.S., where Ella joined him and they were married on June 8, 1943.

 

During his naval service, he saw active duty on the H.M.S. "Mayflower" and the H.M.S. "Nene". As a veteran, he was later awarded a medal for serving in the Murmansk Convoy Service to the Northern Russian Port, providing food, fuel and military supplies for two years. (Source: Find a Grave)
