Leonard John Reginald Rissanen

Died: 16 Dec 2024

 

RISSANEN, Leonard John Reginald - passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 16, 2024. Len was born on March 31, 1937 in Port Arthur. After graduating from Port Arthur Technical School he pursued a successful career as a draftsman for Dominion Bridge in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Len joined the Sea Cadets in his youth and was proud to be a member of the Navy Reserve and HMCS Griffon. Throughout his life he enjoyed travelling and was an avid drawer.

 

Len was a dedicated father and returned to Thunder Bay upon retiring where he was an active member of St. George's Anglican Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5.

 

Waiting for Len are his parents Leonard Sr. and Zelma Rissanen, sons Darcee and Darren Rissanen and sister Linda Dickson. He will be greatly missed by his sister Diane (Doug) Parker, nieces and nephews Aryanna Parker (James King, Dylan King), Doug Parker Jr. (Logan & Joss Parker), Rob, Kathy, Mark, Murray.

 

A memorial service will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5, 229 Van Norman Street on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. The family of Len would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all staff at the TBRHSC and at the Transitional Care Unit at Hogarth Riverview Manor who cared for him during his brief stays.
