SAVIDANT, William Xavier (Bill) - It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Bill Savidant, on Sunday, July 7, 2024, in the Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Charlottetown, PEI on March 7, 1934, Bill was the son of the late Frank and Alice Savidant. Bill is survived by his daughters Cindy (Peter) Forbes, Michele (Howard) Robia; his grandchildren Jamie (Erin) Forbes, Marianne (Michael) Botting, Natalie Robia (Mark Greene), Stephen Robia (Taylor Holmans), Justin Forbes (Chelsey McPhail); his great-grandchildren, Dominic, Roman, Elias, Charlotte, and Willow. He is also survived by his brother Earl (Betty) Savidant; sisters, Shirley (Ronnie) MacIsaac, Joyce (Norman) Keizer, all of Charlottetown and Jean MacDonald (Halifax); along with many nieces, nephews and in-laws (the Flood family).

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Noreen (Flood) Savidant; his parents; his daughter, Nancy Heppleston; sons in law, Marc Arsenault, Peter Heppleston; and siblings, Gertrude Savidant, Marie MacEachern, Francis Arsenault, Louis Savidant, Rose Tinneberg and Edward Savidant.

Bill served in the Royal Canadian Navy and travelled the world protecting our country for 25 years. He then worked for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires at the Halifax Bridge Commission, Halifax Dockyard, N.A.D., and Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot, Bedford. During his time in the Navy, he served on numerous ships and as a Military Police. One of his most significant memories was while he was part of NATO that attended the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II while he was serving on board The Magnificent (The Maggie).

He celebrated his 90th birthday in March and his family had a big party for him which he enjoyed so much and he talked about it frequently. Many people attended to help him celebrate and he received 197 birthday cards. He thought it was fabulous!

He loved a good laugh, and to tell stories of when he was a young sailor travelling the world. His girls always wondered what he would look like when he returned home from a long trip (would he have a beard?). Our Mom would take us to the jetty and as the ship was pulling in we would try to find our Dad in the crowd of sailors standing guard as the ship was docking. He had an amazing memory and could remember dates and events from years ago and tell you who was there and what the weather was like that day.

He was so proud of "his girls", their families and his beautiful wife, Noreen. After Noreen and Nancy passed away, he would take their small urns with him out for dinner or for a ride on his scooter on nice sunny days.

He loved good old country music and singing to the top of his lungs. His surrounding neighbors in his apartment building can attest to that, but they never complained, and they all in fact were very good to him.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at 4 West of the Dartmouth General Hospital, Dr. Matthew Watson, the VON, and CBI Home Health (especially Gary) for their wonderful care and kindness.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 21 from 3-5PM, followed by a funeral mass on Monday, July 22 at 11AM, both held at St Vincent de Paul Church, 320 Flying Cloud Dr., Cole Harbour, Archbishop Martin Currie and Father Christopher McKelvie officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of NS or Autism NS.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during this time of loss. (Arbor Memorial)
