POUNDS, Helen Margaret (née RICHARDSON) - Our fair lady passed away on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Guelph, Ontario, in her 88th year. For the past 7 years she battled cancer with grace and dignity. Helen was the dear mother of Margaret and her husband, Robert Chambers and of Richard Pounds and his wife, Liz. Helen was very proud of her three grandchildren, Shane Chambers, Ethan Pounds and Stephanie Pounds. Helen was the daughter of a pioneering family in the countryside (of what is now The City of North York). She was devoted to her father, Albert Richardson. Helen served in the Canadian Navy during WWII ie. WRCNS and was stationed at Galt, Ontario and Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. She was a proud member of the Wren Association of Toronto. At the age of 43, she attended Quo Vadis School of Nursing in Toronto. She was a charge nurse at Branson Hospital, Willowdale, Ontario for many years. Later, she attended University of Toronto and worked as a Public Health Nurse for the city of North York, until her retirement. In her retirement, she travelled extensively and pursued her many interests of creativity such as baking, gardening, sewing, knitting, embroidery, crocheting and rug hooking. Helen was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, York Mills, Ontario for over 40 years and since 1993, a member of St. John The Evangelist Church in Elora. Helen leaves behind her sisters, Mildred Carpenter and Edna Cath and their children, Christine, Van and Steven. Helen was fortunate to have many dear friends. "I go to prepare a place for you." St. John 14:2 A private service was held at the St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church in Elora on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 with The Reverend Patrick Patterson, Rector and The Reverend Canon Robert Hulse, Rector Emeritus officiating. Interment Elora Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Hospice Wellington or Calvary Baptist Outreach would be appreciated.
