BARTEAUX, Harold Eugene - 85, Moschelle, Annapolis County. It is with sorrow that the family of Harold Eugene Barteaux announces his passing on May 19, 2010, in the Palliative Health Care Unit of Annapolis Community Health Centre in Annapolis Royal. Harold was born February 11, 1925, in the community of Moschelle. He was the son of the late Guy Henry and Flora Christine (Longmire) Barteaux. He was a volunteer in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War, serving overseas on convoy duty between Portsmouth and the Mediterranean, as an AA gunner in the Prince Robert cruiser. He finished the war on a mine sweeper, the Courtney, on the Pacific coast in the Queen Charlotte Islands. After the war, he was employed on an oil tanker, the John Erwin, on the Great Lakes. After coming home he served at CFB Cornwallis for 31 years as a fire fighter. Harold was a great woodsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Guide Association in the 1940s and 50s and a past member of the Ponderosa Snowmobile Club. As an expression of his love for the outdoors he enjoyed travelling and camping. A devoted member of St John's Anglican Church, he served as warden for 25 years. Harold enjoyed working with his son Tim in their sawmill during the next 30 years after his retirement from Cornwallis. He leaves his wife Audrey (Snow) Barteaux, formerly of Port Wade; son Tim Barteaux (Reverend Nita Barteaux), Moschelle; grandson Ben (Ashley) Barteaux, Moschelle; granddaughter Kate (fiancé Laszlo) Barteaux, Calgary; 2 great grandchildren: William and Grace Barteaux. Funeral service will be held at St John's Columbarium, Saturday, 2 pm, Reverend Canon Vaughan officiating. Interment in Harris Cemetery, Moschelle. Reception to follow in Moschelle Community Hall with family eulogy. Visitation to extend condolences will be held at the home of Tim and Juanita Barteaux on Friday, May 21, 7-9 pm at #785 Moschelle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St John's Columbarium, or to Palliative Care Unit at Annapolis Community Health Centre.
