John Bernard Eden

Died: 26 May 2024, Trenton, Ontario

 

EDEN, John Bernard - Born in Port Colborne, ON on March 25th, 1932, John passed away in Trenton, ON on May 26th, 2024 at his recent home, Trent Valley Lodge. John is predeceased by the love of his life, Lillian Eden nee Hopper. Cherished and very proud father of Chris & his wife Kimberley, Paul & his wife Cathy, Tony & his wife Valerie and John Jr. & his wife Deborah. Sadly missed by his nine grandchildren; Jennifer (Trevor), Nicole (Greg), Christopher, Nicholas (Lindsey), Sean (Mary), Zachary (Viviane), Kristen (Kevin), Daniel and Madison and great grandchildren Conner, Amiyah, and Myles.

 

After being born in Port Colborne, ON, John's family moved to Flin Flon, MB, before returning to Fort Erie, ON. John joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1949. He served for 40 plus years combined. Postings to sea included time on many ships including the "Bonaventure" most notably. Other postings included Victoria BC, Ottawa ON, Shearwater and Halifax NS and a final posting to Toronto ON. Included in John's military career was a deployment as an aid in Vietnam during the 1970's conflict.

 

After retirement, John and Lillian moved to Trenton in 1992 where he became involved in many service clubs. He dedicated a lot of his time to the Kente Kiwanis Club and was heavily involved in the Terrific Kids Program. He held many positions in his Naval Air Group called CNAG, including president. John received accommodations for his service and dedication to local programs. John received the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002 and Diamond Jubilee in 2012. As well, John was recognized by the Minister of Veterans Affairs for his work identifying members of his CNAG group who dedicated their lives to the military career, where he received the Veterans Affairs Award in 2001. 

 

John was passionate about sports, gardening and travel. He loved spending time with his family and was always on the sidelines to cheer on his grandchildren whenever he could. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and leaves us with many treasured memories. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff of Trent Valley Lodge for their utmost care and compassion. Their attentiveness, support and kindness made his last weeks more comfortable.

 

Visitation will be held at WEAVER - East, 29 Bay St., Trenton on Wednesday June 19th, 2024 from 10:00-11:00am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Interment Mount Calvary Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Shearwater Aviation Museum Foundation would be appreciated by the family. (Weaver Funeral Homes)
