In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar

Stephen Kripps

Lab Technician

Born: 19 Jan 1920, Hamton, Saskatchewan

Died: 04 Jun 2024

KRIPPS, Stephen - enjoyed "the good life" in the comfort of his own home until just the final few days before his death at Vancouver General Hospital. He was 104.

He was born to pioneer farm life in Hamton, Sask. to parents of Ukrainian immigrant heritage. He interrupted his studies in pharmacy serve in the Second World War, as a lab technician on the hospital ship Letitia.

After his service, Stephen completed his pharmacy qualifications in Saskatchewan and married Agnes (Oksana Semeniuk) in Winnipeg on June 8, 1946. The couple moved to Vancouver shortly afterward; in 1947, they opened Kripps Pharmacy in the heart of downtown.

Continuing in his pioneer spirit, Kripps Pharmacy was the first (and for years the only) place in Vancouver to develop and provide specialized vitamin and mineral supplements. Stephen loved this work; even after his daughter and son-in-law took over the business, Stephen continued working there every Saturday until just short of his 100th birthday. He would cheerfully dispense advice about supplementation and healthy eating -- especially about giving up refined sugar. When he was HOW OLD he authored and self-published a monograph Sugar Kills. Somewhere in between, he developed respectable skill in golf, wrote a monograph on Thyroid, served and supported the local Ukrainian and other business associations; and always enjoyed his kids and grandkids, sometimes making long trips to spend time with them.

Stephen is now missed by his surviving children Robert (Elizabeth Harrison), Julie (Lawrence Northey) and Stephanie (Jerry Ehrmantraut); grandchildren Stephanie Thorpe, Ono Northey (Renee), Taras Kripps, Justin Kripps (Bre), Simon Ehrmantraut; great-grandchild Roman Northey; caregiver Linda xxxxx.

He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes of 67+ years marriage; his daughter Bonnie (Thorpe); his brother Bill Krepiakevich; his parents Myron and Annie Krepiakevich; and many other relatives, golf friends, and colleagues.
